“Sweet Honey from Old Failures”(Antonio Machado): Anger, Rage, and Transformation in the Analytic Setting with visiting lecturer, John Hill, M.A.

Event Details

John Hill, M.A.

Cost: $85

Last night, as I was sleeping,
I dreamt – marvelous error! –
that I had a beehive
here inside my heart.
And the golden bees
were making white combs
and sweet honey
from all my old failures.

The words of the poet Antonio Machado speak for this seminar that focuses on trauma and transference, especially the suffering and sense of failure when the analyst comes under massive attack. Working in this difficult field, failure of the therapeutic process is inevitable. Learning from these failures makes us better at the psychotherapeutic process.

John Hill received his degrees in philosophy at the University of Dublin and the Catholic University of America. He trained at the C. G. Jung Institute Zürich, has practiced as a Jungian analyst since 1973, and is a training analyst at the International School of Analytical Psychology (ISAP Zürich). Mr. Hill has spent nearly forty years practicing as a Jungian psychoanalyst. He attempts to help his clients reconstruct their yet unlived or repressed parts of their personality, guided by the client’s dream, fantasy, or emotional experiences.  He is the author of 18 articles on Dreams, Psychodrama, Odysseys, and Images of God. He is the author of the Book “At Home in the World: Sounds and Symmetries of Belonging” which offers a profound philosophical and psychological exploration of the multi-dimensional significance of home with interwoven themes of homelessness, homesickness, being in a particular dwelling place, as a cultural or national identity, and as a safe temenos in therapy as a metaphor for the individuation process.
